A Box Called How We Always Do It
Pray for Creativity in your Bible stories for kids!
No, I'm not kidding. I think too often we forget this simple but most important step.
I mean, why wouldn't God delight in showing you the best delivery method for His Word?
And you know what? That could change week to week! Are you open to that kind of dependency or are you stuck in the box of tradition?
It's easy to fall back to what you have always done. It's faster that way. It's more comfortable. But...will it be effective this week?
- Pray for creativity from the ultimate creator - God Elohim
- Ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom and leading
- Experiment with different methods - see what clicks with your kids
- Note what grabs kids attention and holds their focus
Listen, tradition has it's place. We need to honor and observe traditon where appropriate. But, not in childrens Bible stories and object lessons.
I believe variety is key with these elements.
Too often we get in a rut, we're trapped in that box called
"how I do it" or
"how this church always does childrens Bible stories." It's time to "kick" out of that box and let some fresh air pour into your room!
The air that is God breathed and inspired.
Don't try this alone! The key is to ask the Holy Spirit for ideas. Allow Him to rip the box top wide open and be your creative partner.
But, one caveat...when you ask God to be your creative partner...be open to some off the wall, off the chart ideas for your kids!
Jesus used unconventional methods to teach His learners. He offended the religious and the traditional zealots. Be prepared for a wild ride!
Give the Holy Spirit a Fair Shot!
Let me hammer on this point some more. For your Bible Stories for kids, as with object lessons, give your Holy Spirit partner time!
Time for revelation and inspiration.
Browse the lesson Monday. See what the focus is, read the text. Pray and let the Holy Spirit show you things through the week!
Break out of the
"how I always do it" box and jump into the
"how we gonna do it this time God?" mindset.
Prepare to be amazed at how you grow in Elohim - God. You'll never create alone again!
