Bible Memory Verses...
Stick it in Your Ear!

Bible memory verses - gotta, gotta have 'em!

Yes, Bible verses for children aren't just an option, they're a must...why?

I will answer that, but first...were you offended by the headline?

I know, I know...those are fighten words, right? But hey...this time its uplifting! Stick God's Word in your ear..and your kid's ear too..and not just once...repeatedly!

Now I can hear a few of you clicking furiously away. Aw, come on...you're too stiff...lighten up!

Let's take a quick look at why I teach Bible memory verses and highly recommend you teach Bible verses for children too!

Stick it in their ear!

Kids need to hear God's word. Well duh, right? maybe maybe not...check this out - some MAY hear God's word but don't even know it! What? How can that be?

It's sad to think of a teacher who simply tells kid's Bible stories - from notes - week after week - without cracking open their Bible. Believe me...it happens!

Kids need to know where the story originated! That it's REAL, it happened, not something you made up.

Kids must hear AND SEE you reading the Bible. They also need to understand key verses - and that's where Bible memory verses come in. The more they hear God's word, the more it will stick in their EAR and heart.
Yes - Bible verses for children are a gotta' have!

Yes kid's need to hear the Word- we all know the verse in Romans 10:17 - Faith comes from HEARING the Word!

Stick it in their eye!

When's this guy gonna stop? First the ear now the eye!

Okay- how does this sound...Kids need to READ God's word...like that better?

Bible memory verses are perfect to get kids to read the Word of God in a fun way.

I love for kids to use their Bibles at some part of the lesson. But, younger kids have difficulty keeping up sometimes. Often they have just begin to read. Bible verses for children give them a "snippet" to read instead of being overwhelmed by a long passage.

  • Write the Bible memory verse on a white/chalk board
  • Look up the verse in kid's Bibles
  • Break the verse out on index cards - T-shirts or balloons. Hand them out and have kids say their word then tape the cards or balloons in order on the wall or stand the T-shirt kids in order in the front of the class.
  • Use a Power Point presentation
With any of the methods above - have the kids read and say the Bible verses for children out loud together or separately. (see below for "speak the word") Yeah I know - these aren't original ideas - I am just giving you some ultra-simple examples anyone can do.

I really like Power Points for this reason - Randomly during your lesson as an attention grabber or at pre-planned times in your lesson, display the verse and read it together then move on. This works great for the main point or other phrases you use in your curriculum.

By the way - its not as slick, "techy" or smooth but overhead transparencies do the trick here also.

Bottom line- whatever method you use is the best method if you get them to stick the Bible memory verses in their eye! If you have a really cool way you have found that works...send it to us and I'll post it so others can benefit.

Stick it in their mouth!

Now you've gone too far mister!!!!!

Anyway, I love to see and hear this - there is nothing like hearing kids SPEAK the word of God. And, with kids - SHOUTING IT OUT is even more fun - too cool!

Because when they speak it they are actually feeding themselves by then hearing those words too! They are in effect feeding their own spirits and building their faith!

Repeating Bible memory verses over and over in creative ways is lots of fun and effective. And, guess what? You can't over feed or over eat!

Speaking Bible verses for children is speaking life! Jesus said in John 6:63 - The words I speak to you are spirit and life! God's word in your mouth - in your kid's mouths are spirit and life too! So, don't be afraid to stick it in their mouth!

Stick it in their hands!

Now that one doesn't sound as bad does it? Some people are clicking back now!

Kids need to handle God's word. Well what does that mean? Kids need to work with God's word, to get familiar with it - to actually use it and apply it!

It's cool for you to speak it and use it but it's so much better when kids take the bible memory verse "in hand" for themselves!

Come up with Bible activities or memory verse games for kids to apply the Bible verses for children.

Small group settings are great for handling God's word in discussions about real life situations and problems.

Skits are also effective in presenting how others "handle" the Bible memory verses.

Stick it in their hearts!

Why stick or hide (as the Psalms say) the word in their heart? So they know what pleases God! So they have the word handy when they face situations and temptations...when they need direction.

Bible memory verses get hidden in their hearts by hearing, reading, speaking and handling God's word.

Can you see why Bible memory verses are so important?
