Bible Games - Have a Blast and Learn Too!
Bible Games - Why Do 'Em?
Bible games are a critical component to any fun Bible lesson for kids.
How critical?
I wouldn't consider creating a lesson without at least one. Bible games are incredibly effective at accomplishing so many things.
Let's take a look at the top 5 reasons I use games and recommend that you should too!
1. Kids Need to Let Their Guard Down
I've said this before - kids aren't always open to you or even to other kids in the room. A warm up time and different approaches are needed to effectively break the ice. Click for Icebreaker page Bible games are a perfect complement to the lesson icebreaker as a way for kids to "get lost" in the moment and lose their self awareness or self consciousness.
2. Kids Need to Have Fun!

What's wrong with letting kids see church is fun - relax a bit and prepare them to receive God's message and love?
Don't underestimate the fun factor. Yeah I've heard the argument over the years- this is church - they should be learning God's word not playing games! Well...remember, this fun has a purpose! Your goal is to open each kid's heart up first...then they can receive God's Word.
Some people might strongly disagree, but I believe the Holy Spirit works through games too! Games soften kid's hearts and minds like few things do.
I believe kids need to have fun and be kids. There are a lot of pressures and influences that try to rob kids of being kids. Your kids need to know your classroom is a space that's safe, gives them hope, love and acceptance and gives them a break from "life" to have fun!
3. Kids Need to Connect with Kids!
I love to see this happen!
Look at your classroom. You have different ages, backgrounds and interests. What crosses all those lines and engages each one? Begin a fun game and watch what happens. Boredom and uneasiness melt into laughter, talking, helping and cheering for each other. Trust me here, there is nothing quite like kids Bible games! God's Spirit will inspire and anoint your creativity and heart to connect kids to kids!
4. Kids Get the Point in a New Way
Okay, we all know that kids and adults, for that matter, have different learning styles. Let me DO, HANDLE, EXPERIMENT - I'm hands on.You can talk and talk and I just won't get it.
But, let me watch you do it...better yet, let me do it and ...I still won't get It!I wish I was kidding! But really, chances are I'll grasp the concept with hands on learning.
Let's say you just taught your little heart out. Some kids even paid attention; some kids even understood! But, some kids,well...blank stares. Come on now...I am not being critical - I have lived it for over 25 years of teaching kids.
So then - we accept that's the way it is? Oh, they're just kids...NO! God's Word is waaaay too important for their lives! Hit the lesson point in a different way! Create your own Bible game around your lesson topic. Let the kids DO an element of the kids Bible lesson!
It's easier than you think to create kids Bible games! The more you do, the more you'll see kids "get it."
5. Kids Apply the Lesson
We're talking about fun with a purpose. And for a purpose...what's better than applying God's Word? It's the difference between a head knowledge and a heart knowledge.
Isn't that what it's about? To teach a kids Bible lesson and let kids play a game or do a Bible activity and apply the truth's taught; then they walk out Monday and use that Word at school because it sunk in and they're familiar with it ... NOW we're getting somewhere!
Yep, you're just playin' around...with a purpose!

Bible Application
The Bible talks about application of the Word in Proverbs 3:13 AMP
Happy (blessed, fortunate, enviable) is the man who finds skillful and godly Wisdom, and the man who gets understanding [drawing it forth from God's Word and life's experiences].
Why can't you apply it during a game or other fun activity?
